Monday, July 6th will be the start of the U20 European Championship in Division B. Macedonian city will host 11 teams that are divided into two groups. Group A will consist of Austria, Great Britain, Hungary, Belgium, Greece and Portugal. Group B will have Macedonia, Netherlands, Slovak Republic, Romania and Israel. The top four teams of each of two preliminary groups will advance to the quarterfinal round of the tournament. The best four teams then will make up for semifinal pairs.
Last season Sweden celebrated in the final of European Championship Division B outplaying Poland at the front of their fans. Very important achievement for both teams is that they will compete in division A at this European Championship. Malin Edlund (183-G-88) was the best player in Sweden this time collecting 20 points and 4 rebounds. Frida Eldebrink (174-G-88), who was the leading Swedish player during the entire tournament, needed one more rebound for double-double. She stopped on 18 points, 9 boards and 5 assists. The top scorer of U20 European Championship Division B, which was held in Poland, was Nadia Tavares (178-F-88) of Portugal. Her team ended competition in Preliminary Round winless but Tavares and her teammates outplayed Great Britain twice in the battle for the 9th place. Tavares demonstrated the best performance at the opening as well as at the last game of Portugal. In the first game she netted 23 points against Sweden while at the last one against the British she drained 25. She scored 109 points during the entire championship which is 18.2 ppg.
Portugal and Austria will open the campaign at 12.00 in Group A. The game between Netherlands and Romania will be the last in Day 1.
