Dutch Experts Deliver Training in the Field of Customs Origin

In the period 2-6 June 2008, two experts from the Dutch Tax and Customs Administration, Mr. Gert van ‘t Spijker (origin unit) and Mr. Klaas Johann Visser (client audit), carried out a “training on the job”" in the field of customs valuation for their colleagues at the Macedonian Customs Administration. In this context, the Dutch experts, together with the local representatives from the origin unit and colleagues from other Customs houses, paid a visit to the Customs house for importation and the new export terminal in Skopje.
One of the findings was that the verifying of the import and export declarations should be accompanied with physical examination to see whether the declared origin matched with the subscriptions on the declared products. Furthermore, the mission visited the plant of Makstil in Skopje, which is a company that has applied for an authorization for approved exporter.
During a tour in the plant the delegation could see the handling of scrap and the processing of steel sheets from slabs. After this tour a representative of Makstil showed the delegation the input and output in the administration, to give an overview of the way the conditions for approved exporter are fulfilled. This mission is part of the long-term co-operation between the Dutch and Macedonian Customs under the framework of the bilateral twinning between these two institutions, funded by the Netherlands Embassy Skopje.
