On Saturday, 12 January, the Republic of Macedonia lost 11 of its soldiers due to a tragic helicopter accident. The soldiers were on their way back from their mission in Bosnia in the context of Macedonia's participation in the EU military Operation Althea. The Netherlands Embassy in Skopje deeply sympathizes with the grief of the families and friends of the victims. The Ambassador and Defence Attaché attended both the impressive memorial meeting on Monday, 14 January, and the moving and highly emotional State Funeral at the Butel cemetery in Skopje on Tuesday, 15 January. Moveover, the Ambassador signed the Book of condolences.
