Europe Day 9 May 2009 – Tetovo

The City square of Tetovo hosted a central event on Saturday, 9th of May, on the occasion of  ‘Europe Day’. Students from about 30 school from Tetovo, presented the European Union, the Member-States and the European spirit to the local citizens. The event was organized by the EU Mission to Macedonia, the European Movement of Macedonia, the Secretariat for European Affairs and the City of Tetovo.

On the 9th of May 1950, Robert Schuman presented his proposal on the creation of an organized Europe, indispensable to the maintenance of peaceful relations. This proposal, known as the "Schuman declaration", is considered to be the beginning of the creation of what is now the European Union.

The event gathered several Ambassadors of EU Member-States to Macedonia, including the Head of the EU Mission to Macedonia, Erwan Fouéré and the Deputy Prime Minister Ivica Bocevski.

The Kingdom of The Netherlands was presented by the primary school “Rilindja” from the village of Selce. The students, accompanied by the head of the school, teachers and the Deputy Head of Mission of the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, succeeded in delivering the true Dutch spirit to the citizens of Tetovo.
