Promotion of the Manual on National Human Rights Protection Systems

nhrps.jpg (44 Kb)On 10th of December, the world celebrates the International Human Rights Day. The Embassy of the Kingdom of The Netherlands in Skopje and the Coalition "All for Fair Trials" will contribute to this celebration by presenting a Manual on National Human Rights Protection Systems, at the EU Info Centre, from 09:45 to 11:00 am.

The Manual, which was prepared by the Dutch government under the auspices of the Czech Presidency of the EU in the first half of 2009, will be presented by Mr Gert Kampman, Chargé d'Affairs a.i. of the Netherlands Embassy. Mrs. Slavica Dimitrievska from the Coalition "All for Fair Trials" will provide a response in which she will address the relevance of the Manual for civil society in Macedonia.

The National Human Rights Promotion System Manual is designed to activate effective human rights and development interventions by focusing on the basic human rights infrastructure. The Manual promotes greater collaboration between the embassies and the UN human rights machinery, and also argues for active cooperation with government institutions and civil society. All these stakeholders can use the manual's overview of practical indicators, guidelines, standards and references describing a National Human Rights Protection System to assist them in planning and strengthening their existing and future human rights activities. The manual can be downloaded from the Embassy website from Thursday, 10 December onwards.
