Reconstructed Bicycle Lane in Aerodrom Officially Opened
Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands Simone Filippini, Minister of Environment and Spatial Planning Nexhati Jakupi, Mayor of Skopje Koce Trajanovski and Mayor of Aerodrom Ivica Konevski opened the reconstructed bicycle lane in the Municipality of Aerodrom on Wednesday, 21 October 2009 with ribbon-cutting and bicycle parade.
The event was organised by the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, the Ministry of Environment and Spatial Planning, the City of Skopje, Municipality of Aerodrom and NGO Proaktiva. In her speech Ambassador Filippini emphasised the advantages of using the bicycle as a healthier, economical and environmentally-friendly means of transport as well as the importance of a solid bicylce network in Skopje and the other towns in Macedonia. She expressed her satisfaction of the increased awareness for the use of bicycle and the number of cycling events that are being organised around the country.
The organisers provided 15 bicycles, 9 of which were given to the best primary school students in the Municipality of Aerodrom, and 6 were given away in the lottary which was organised during the event.
The Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands has supported the preparation of the Master Plan for use of bicycles in the City of Skopje and the reconstruction of the bicycle lane through its development funds.
