Ambassador of the Netherlands Simone Filippini, Minister of Education and Sciences Pero Stojanovski and Director of IOCE Skopje Gjorgji Jovanovski opened the Symposium on Children’s Rights in the Framework of the Education for Democratic Citizenship, which takes place from 15 to 16 June 2009 in the premises of the EU Info Centre.

The seminar is part of a project entitled "Exploring Children's Rights to strengthen Sustainable Education on the Rights of the Child" which is being implemented in the course of the last two years. Primary school teachers, advisors from the Bureau for Development of Education and representatives from the Ministry of Education and Sciences attend the seminar, as well as some representatives form international organisations working on areas related to civic education.

The Education for Democratic Citizenship and Human Rights (EDC) is a set of practices and activities designed to help young people and adults play an active part in democratic life and exercise their rights and responsibilities in society. Education for democratic citizenship encompasses other related concepts, such as peace and intercultural education. Human rights education (HRE) is the core and indivisible part of democratic citizenship education.
