As a part of the World Cup 2010 qualifying matches, the Netherlands welcomes the Macedonian national team for a return match after its victory with 1:2 in Skopje on 10 September 2008. The return match will take place on 1 April 2009 in the Amsterdam ArenA, starting at 19.45 hrs GMT. 

The Netherlands have won all their three matches in the sole five-team group and have a five-point advantage. Scotland and Iceland, who have played a game more, are the nearest challengers, with F.Y.R. Macedonia on three points and Norway having picked up two draws and a defeat at home to the Netherlands on 15 October. Bert van Marwijk's men face Scotland on 28 March and F.Y.R. Macedonia on 1 April, when Iceland visit Scotland. Norway return to action on 6 June in F.Y.R. Macedonia.
